Who Reads the Dead Aloud
In the Ossuary, Archlector Marrow walks the wreckage and reads aloud from the black boxes of the fallen. Ships that hear their crews' last words spoken back to them have a habit of rising again, under new management.
The Last Rite was assembled from eleven hulls, each one lost to a different empire. The Dominion considers this a mark of great piety. Everyone else considers it a warning.
